The Kaleidoscope Garden
In this space you will see diversity and inclusivity throughout the activities and the engagement among the elders and kids. This space will have activities that are designed to encourage the kids and elderly to share/ talk about their culture and where they come from. Having the lounge area provides a safe and welcoming space. Both generations face challenges with accessibly and mobility in their lives. The older generation tends to have struggles with walking so they may have a tool to help them get around. These pathways need to be clear so that when both generations are walking, they do not have to worry about objects being in their way. Butterflies are a perfect example of showing the gradual development of the stages of life, which is symbolic for elders and children engaging in a communal space with one another. The building will act as an event space where different activities will be held for all ages. The Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing butterfly inspired the color palette for the space, as it has a variety of warm and cool tones, and color is crucial for kids’ developmental skills, and it can improve memory for elders. Plus, butterflies are a part of nature which is known to improve mental health.
